The Old Barracks hosted a unique program for Black History Month
featuring reenactors and exhibits presenting the history of black
soldiers spanning from the colonial era to theKorean War.
Visitors heard presentations and viewed documents and artifacts.
Reenactment groups included the 1st Rhode Island of the Continenal
Line, 6th Regiment Infantry U.S. Colored Troops, and the 5th Platoon.
Individual interpreters potrayed soldiers from the War of 1812, Indian
Wars, and World War I. Several veterans from World War II attended
to see the 5th Platoon WWII reenactors. A Buffalo Soldier who served
in Korea participated.

The Long Road to Freedom

The First Rhode Island Regiment Reenactors is participated in the Long Road to Freedom Black History program at the Federeal Hall in New York. At noon The Faison Firehouse Theatre presented a play of the same name as the program in which the some members portrayed black soldiers in the historic 1st RI, and others portrayed the blacks who fought for the British as the Loyal Ethiopians. see full posting on Now Public
