*Historically Black Unit (HBU) designates military units which historically were predominantly composed of blacks (African descent). In some cases it may also designate a unit which was not majority black, but which has a significant proportion of blacks among its' ranks. These units may be portrayed by re-enactors of any "race", but the goal is to bring recognition to and educate the public about the historical military contributions role of African-Americans, especially during the formative years of this country.
